About 75 of women will have a yeast infection in their life time. That more then half! Many women don’t know how to treat it or just ignore it, because they don’t know it’s a yeast infection. So here everything you need to know about a yeast infection.

So what is a yeast infection? A yeast infection is an infection of the vagina and the area around it called the vulva. It’s an over growth of yeast, which is called Candida (which is a fungus). There is always a small amount in the vagina but when your body produces too much that’s when you get a yeast infection.

There are some factors that my cause of contribute to a yeast infection. Such as hormonal changes during your periods, having your period, pregnancy, lack of sleep, illness, stress, taking certain med like antibiotics, birth control, and steroids, and poor eating habits (diets high in sugar). You can also get a yeast infection from having sexual intercourse and from oral too. You can pass this to your partner too, so make sure you treat it as soon as possible.

How do you know that you have a yeast infection? The most common symptom is itchiness around the vagina. Other symptoms include swelling, burning, and redness of the vagina and vulva, soreness, pain during and after intercourse, and when urinating. Your will also get a white lumpy (like cottage cheese) discharge. This discharge will not have an order to it and may not always occur on some people.

Stay away from antibiotics when you have a yeast infection. Why? Because antibiotics actually make the Candida colonies grow at a faster rate.

The way yeast infections are diagnosed are usually you have to go to the doctors and the doctors will take a specimen scraped from the inside walls of the vagina and test for Candida. There are also over the counter ways to test for yeast infections now too, what they do is measure your body’s pH. Knowing your body’s pH can help you know if you have a yeast infection and if you need to get it treated.

There are many treatments out there for a yeast infection, oral creams, tablets, ointments and suppositories. The ones that come in vaginal tablets are called clotrimazole, miconazole, terconazole, and nystatin. The one that you would take orally is called fluconazole. These all need to prescribe to you by a doctor. And with these medications come side effects and may take a while for you to see results. And most of them just treat the infection and don’t keep the infection from coming back.

A great supplement that treats the infection and keeps it from coming back is called Candidol by micro nutra. This supplement helps your body keep a normal yeast balance with out the negative side effects. It builds up your immune system so that it can fight the growth of Candida, and helps build up your pH levels.
