In case you are among those people who believe that your eyesight cannot improve unless you opt surgery or use contact lenses and sunglasses, it’s high time that you realize that this is a myth. Dr. William Horatio Bates (December 23, 1860 July 10, 1931), an ophthalmologist first proved that one’s eyesight can be improved by means of relaxation and also by performing eye exercises. Thus, the Bates method, named after him can successfully and naturally improve eyesight.

One of the basis on which the Bates method works is by recuperating the eyes from the regular strain and stress that it suffers. However, the Bates method’s success has mixed reviews with scientists and researchers questioning the potential and viability of this method.Inspite of these claims and controversies people have gone ahead with the Bates method of treatment and have actually claimed to benefit out of it by having their eyesight improved naturally.

Interestingly enough the Bates method proceeds to treat the eyesight and vision problems based on psychological principles. In fact, doctor Bates himself claims to have treated several patients successfully by imparting them an improved vision, naturally. He has also been responsible for the book, “Perfect Sight Without Glasses,” in 1920.

Some of the Features of Bates Methods are:

•The Bates method emphasizes relieving the eyes and their muscles of undue stress and strain by focusing completely on the mind and the body of the patient.

•One of the primary exercises from Bates method is palming which involves covering your eyes with both the palms to block out the light and thus give them rest.

•Dr. Bates had great faith in the power of relaxation. He believes that one should close their eyes and visualize all kinds of pleasant and happy mental images. This way, you can feel more relaxed as the black of your mind gets darker and the black of the visualized area gets smaller in size. Visualization was indeed a great way not just to relax your eyes but also to improve your eyesight naturally.

•To make your eyes return to their normal reposed state make sure you close your eyes to relax them whenever you can even during the day. The darkness though ephemeral will do you a whole lot of good and also when you open your eyes you can have a relaxed expression as you see the things around you.

•Do not frown or scrunch your forehead much and try to practice as many eye and eye muscle exercise as you can. Eye focus exercises, eye rotating exercises, and eye swinging exercises are some of the exercises which you can try.

•Whenever you are lying on the bed, close your eyes and place a dark, soft, thin cloth on them. Think less about you anxieties and instead try to visualize the pleasant things. As your whole body and mind relaxes with you observing total darkness you will realize that very soon you see distant things in a better and clearer way. The eyes will get softened as you repeat this exercise.

Though time consuming, these exercises will not only relieve you of your stress but also give you a new improved vision with time. Give them at try.
