What exactly is thermogenesis? It literally means the creation of heat and has everything to do with energy. Science says that energy is not created or destroyed, but transformed, converted, transported, and stored. Most people know that human’s energy comes from what we eat in the form of calories. A calorie is actually the amount of heat needed to heat one gram of water one degree Celsius. As we eat calories, the energy is used throughout our body or stored in the form of fat.

Energy is used by the body in many different ways. Some of it is lost through feces and the urinary system. Most of the rest of it is actually available for metabolism. Obviously, metabolism has a lot to do with weight. One of the biggest ways to expend energy in the body is through thermic (heat) energy. This is what supports most of our everyday functions. Thermic energy is what differentiates humans from reptiles. Any of the left over energy can be used for the body to reproduce cells, growth, muscle movement, and storage. The most common form of stored energy is known as fat.

There are three different forms of thermogenesis. The first is called thermo regulatory and actually has two forms. They are Shivering and Non shivering. Obviously you know that shivering when you’re cold makes you warmer. It causes the skeletal muscles to shake which creates body heat. It is the body’s way of trying to regulate the 98.7 degree (f) normal body temperature. The second type, non shivering, fits with the last classification of diet induced thermogenesis. That will be discusses in a minute. The next form is work induced from exercise and working out. Muscles work much better when they are warm rather than cold. When you exercise your body produces heat so your muscles perform more effectively.

The last part is the diet induced thermogenesis. Sometimes when you eat a lot you get hot and start to sweat. This is because your body creates more energy that is needed to digest a large amount of food. Your body’s temperature rises when it starts to create this energy. Once again, your body is trying to regulate its temperature to 98.7 degrees (f) and you start to sweat. The organ responsible for this function is called the brown fat tissue. This is what keeps animals that hibernate alive during the cold winter months. The brown fat tissue is located around blood vessels and major organs. The blood starts to warm when it is triggered into activity and pumps the warm blood throughout the body.

The warmer our bodies are the more energy is being used. If we are using more and more energy, our metabolism can actually rise. This is how thermogenesis is related to weight loss. The more energy we use, the less it has to be stored. If you are exercising and using more energy, your body can actually dip into the stored energy it has to keep you going. If done correctly, this can help people burn fat and actually lose weight. Taking a supplement called Hyperdrive by ALR can help the process of thermogenesis to give you more energy and lose weight.
